Burleigh Point

Well as we now approach the Nationals at Mooloolaba, our regatta campaign has gone well so far with great results at both Sprints and Marathon.

The The Sprint's regatta held at Regatta Waters, Oxenford were hotly contested and Burleigh Point finished with a good result for the Men's Open Team with a very credible 5th place in the 500 m sprint.

The Golden Masters showed they still had it with a clean sweep of all distances winning GOLD in each of their events against very good clubs at the National level.

Moving to the marathon series, Burleigh Point with one marathon to contest in the SQ Zone OC6 series was leading the point score in the Open Mixed Short course, Open Mixed Long course and the Golden Masters - well done.

The Noosa regatta was an excellent regatta, even with the elements being against us resulting in not being able to race off the coast and reverting to the Noosa River. The club had a great result winning each event entered, being the Open Mixed Short Course with new gun steerer Gail at the helm, Open Mixed Long Course and the Golden Masters.

Our latest regatta just held by Outrigger Aust at the Spit was a chance to pit our skills in some Ocean racing. The day was picture perfect and the Canoes lining up at the start was considerable. Here we fielded an Open Short Course Mixed, again steered by Gail (noted as the most polite steerer in the race - to the dismay of some) . We then fielded the Open Men's team, keen to challenge all comers in the 21k race and finishing in a very credible position (still waiting on results). Lastly, lined up at the start was the traditional warhorse - Hoi Nui, in the Master/Open Mixed Long Course. If you think Ando has lost any of his zeal for hugging rocks, then think again. You can see pic's of this regatta on the Web site as well as a brief video of the Open Men and Open Mixed on Youtube....Oh and a brief video of the Mixed Long Course team at Noosa.

Other news is, the club has ordered a new Mahi Mahi OC6 courtesy of a grant provided to by the Queensland Government and the Community Benefit Fund of which we are sincerely grateful. We are keenly working towards the new Mahi Mahi being ready to use at the Nationals.

While I have your attention, just a reminder of the Regatta we are holding at the Spit on the 8th of May. The committee has been working very hard pulling this together and to make it a success we need all the help we can get on the day. We want to run the regatta and COMPETE as is the norm, so please make a note of the day and confirm your availability with Dot. We have a great program lined up with it being a 2 event Regatta, allowing everyone to compete in 2 events on the day - a 12k and a 6k course.

(P.S. Yes, I am looking at bringing the Website up to speed and giving it a new look - watch this space)

Cheers and Happy Paddling........Carl…..
